It's not uncommon for me to find pre-owned items and repurpose them for my house.  I'll share some of my makeovers here.

Kitchen Table Chairs

My neighbor placed a kitchen table and chairs in the alley in hopes that someone would take everything and make it their own.  I took the two best chairs.  My mom planned to take one and later decided that she didn't have a purpose for it.  That left me with two chairs to refurbish. I sanded and painted both chairs using paint that I already had from my dining room as well as samples from Lowe's. Since I already had the paint for other purposes, this project was FREE!
